Jones and Laughlin Steel built Aliquippa as a company town and ran it like one, and when it sacked ten men for organising, the case went all the way up. In NLRB v. Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp. The Supreme Court upheld the Wagner Act, and with it the federal right to unionise in any industry touching interstate commerce. The mill that provoked the ruling ran seven miles along the Ohio and is almost entirely gone.
