Admiral's Row is demolished for a supermarket
1864
Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn, New York
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
Ten houses for Navy Yard officers went up along this edge of the yard between 1864 and 1901. The Navy shut the yard in 1966 but kept personnel in the houses into the mid 1970s, after which the row was left to fall in on itself under its own trees. The National Guard decided in 2009 to clear it over preservationists' objections, demolition started in 2016, and a Wegmans now trades on the site. One house and a timber shed were kept.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
