The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced a temple for this eight-acre site in 2022, and the first design raised a spire about 174 feet over a town of roughly 11,000 people that keeps a tight limit on building height. The argument ran for a year through council hearings, yard signs, protests and the threat of a religious liberty suit. In April 2025 the town council approved a redesign by five votes to two: a single-storey building of about 30,000 square feet with the spire cut to 120 feet.
