Silver Reef
1875
Washington County, Utah
The Utahraptor · CC BY-SA 3.0 · Wikimedia Commons
The place that broke a rule of geology: silver in sandstone, which experts said could not happen, in a reef the Mormons around it largely refused to mine. The Wells Fargo office survives as a museum among a few walls and a modern subdivision creeping close.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
