The community garden where the two rivals finally meet, and the dog gives it away, is a real volunteer-run garden on a terrace of Riverside Park on the Upper West Side. It blooms on a schedule the film did not invent. People time visits to catch it as it looks in the last scene, which is a strange thing to do to a public park, and lovely.
