Al Cowlings drove the white Bronco and Simpson rode as a passenger, and the pursuit crawled across the Los Angeles freeways in front of a live audience of around 95 million, the networks cutting away from the NBA Finals to carry it. It ended at his Rockingham estate here in Brentwood, where he surrendered. He was acquitted of both murders in October 1995, then found liable for the two deaths by a civil jury in February 1997 and ordered to pay the families 34 million dollars.
