New Pond Farm sits off Umpawaug Road in West Redding, a working farm that runs as an education centre, with a brook, an observatory and a one room schoolhouse on the property. In 1989 Melissa and Doug Bernstein, the founders of the Melissa and Doug toy company, shot a childrens video here called Special Friends: Starring You On Kazoo. Most of it is half an hour of kids being taught to play the kazoo. One shot is not: a boy in a blue shirt on the lawn turns to the camera and says wait a minute, who are you. That boy is Brett Ambler, eight years old, from Redding, and about twenty five years later the shot became one of the most reposted clips on the internet. Ambler has confirmed the farm himself.
