The outdoor courts at Bessie Branham Park in Kirkwood, red and grey tiles laid over a slope on the east side of Atlanta. In April 2022 a squirrel came out into the middle of a pickup game here and started chasing the basketball, and nothing anybody did would make it leave. Players ran past it and it stayed. The ball rolled at it and it went after the ball. When one of them crouched down and pushed the ball straight at it, over and over, it stood up on its back legs and held its ground. ESPN put the clip out crediting the account it came from. The name everybody knows it by is wrong: a TikTok reposting it that June called it Air Chipmunk, the line got quoted more than the video did, and it stuck to an animal that is plainly a squirrel.
