This Old West-themed festival takes over the small Kern River town of Kernville every Presidents' Day weekend, named for the settlement's original 1860s mining-camp name. It features a parade, a rodeo, a chili cook-off, gunfight reenactments, and residents in period costume, and has run since the 1950s. It is a community-organised event rather than a tourist-bureau creation.
