Riverside, Iowa leans into its designation as the fictional future birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk with a late June weekend of costumes, a parade and sci-fi themed activities. TrekFest has run for four decades and centers on the Kirk birthplace monument outside the small Washington County town's city hall.
