An eight day festival celebrating the cherry harvest in the self declared Cherry Capital of the World, with a Cherry Royale Parade, air shows, and fireworks along Grand Traverse Bay. It has run since 1925. The 2027 festival, its 101st, runs July 3 through 10.

The hills around Grand Traverse Bay grow most of America's tart cherries, protected by lake-effect air that holds spring back until frost danger passes, and Traverse City has called itself the cherry capital since its festival began in the 1920s.
The Northern Michigan Asylum opened in 1885 on the Kirkbride plan under a superintendent who banned straitjackets and prescribed flowers, work and beauty, and its Victorian-Italianate wards ran for over a century.
