The Loris Chamber of Commerce has run a chicken bog cooking contest in downtown Loris every third Saturday of October since 1980, celebrating the chicken, rice and sausage dish that gives the festival its name. Dozens of cooks compete for best bog while craft vendors and live music fill the streets. It has grown from a single cookoff into the town's signature event.
