Rex, the King of Carnival, has led the Mardi Gras Day procession through Uptown New Orleans since 1872 and established the traditional purple, green and gold Carnival colors. The parade rolls on Fat Tuesday morning down St. Charles Avenue toward Canal Street. Rex is considered the ceremonial monarch of New Orleans Carnival.
