Grand Saline sits atop one of the largest salt deposits in the world, and its Salt Festival marks that history each September with a street dance, a gospel night, and a parade through the small East Texas town. The festival has run for more than fifty years and is organized by the town's Salt Festival Heritage Association. Morton Salt still operates a mine beneath the town.
