Thirteen blocks of Folsom Street close on the last Sunday of September for the world's largest leather and fetish street fair, which began in 1984 as a neighbourhood protest against the redevelopment pushing working people out of SoMa. It draws a few hundred thousand people and gives its gate money away to Bay Area charities.
