December Nights transforms Balboa Park into a free two day holiday festival with a Friday tree lighting, hundreds of food booths, and cultural performances across the park's museums and gardens. Now in its 48th year, it is billed as the largest free holiday festival in California and draws crowds in the hundreds of thousands. Saturday adds a daytime International Cottages festival where local cultural groups host food and craft displays.
