The Bridge City Gumbo Festival has celebrated Louisiana's signature dish since the 1970s, cooking more than 2,000 gallons of seafood and chicken and sausage gumbo over the weekend. It relocated to the Westwego Farmers Market from its original Bridge City site and still draws visitors from across the region. The festival includes carnival rides, live music and a gumbo cook off.

Pablo Sala subdivided land along the Company Canal in 1892 and called it Salaville.
The community grew up in the 1930s around the building of the Huey P.
Laid out on the Foucher sugar plantation for the World Cotton Centennial exposition, whose main building was the largest in the world at the time and was sold for scrap afterwards..
The Oak Street Po-Boy Festival closes down the Carrollton neighborhood's Oak Street each November for a day dedicated to the New Orleans sandwich, with dozens of local restaurants serving original po-boy variations.
