NASCAR's Cup Series has raced the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway every summer since 1994, run on the same 2.5 mile oval as the Indy 500. The race has typically run in late July, drawing fans from across the Midwest to the Racing Capital of the World. Recent editions have alternated between the oval and a road course configuration.

Carl Fisher built a proving ground for the local car industry, then paved it with 3.2 million bricks after the crushed-stone surface killed drivers and spectators in 1909.
Fisher and his partners laid out a town around the track for the workers of an industry they expected to boom, and it is still a separate municipality entirely surrounded by Indianapolis.
