Athens has hosted a fiddlers contest each spring since 1932, making it one of the oldest fiddling competitions in Texas. Competitors travel from across the state to play for a crowd gathered downtown, and the event includes a jam session that runs late into the night. It is organized by the local Old Fiddlers Reunion Association.
