- James Brown's Augusta1.0 mi
James Brown grew up poor in Augusta, shining shoes and dancing for change on Ninth Street, and the city he left came to define him: he kept an office here, gave out turkeys and toys every year, and the arena and a Broad Street statue carry his name.
Bobby Jones built his retirement course on an old nursery in 1933 and the tournament that followed became the only major played on the same ground every year, which is why its azaleas and its pond carry more memory than most stadiums.
Eleven years after his last major, four back surgeries in, he walked up the eighteenth at Augusta to a roar people compared to a stadium's.
- Masters Tournament4.4 mi
The first men's major of the golf season, played at Augusta National since 1934.
