Alvin Straight was seventy-three, could not get a driver's licence, and heard that his estranged brother had had a stroke. So he hitched a trailer to a riding mower with a top speed of five miles an hour and drove 240 miles from Laurens, Iowa to this unincorporated crossroads in Crawford County, sleeping in ditches, taking six weeks. David Lynch filmed the route in order in 1999 and called it The Straight Story. It came out rated G, the only film he ever made that a child could be taken to.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
