Six lawmen waited in the pines along a parish road and fired around a hundred and thirty rounds into the couple's Ford before it stopped rolling. A stone marker stands on the shoulder where it happened, chipped by decades of souvenir hunters, and Gibsland up the road keeps a museum in the cafe where the pair bought their last sandwiches.
