Walker Ranch ran cattle, lumber and a gold mill at once

James Walker came out from Missouri in the 1860s, and he and his wife Phoebe homesteaded 160 acres in the foothills southwest of Boulder, moving into a new ranch house in the early 1880s. He ran cattle and milled lumber, and leased ground to an English company that worked gold with a cyanide mill, so a single property carried most of the region's industries at the same time. Fire destroyed the ranch house in 1992 and the building there now is a reconstruction. Boulder County holds the ranch as open space.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
