Waimea Bay and big-wave surfing
1957
North Shore, Oahu
Travisthurston · CC BY-SA 3.0 · Wikimedia Commons
A group paddled out at Waimea in 1957 and broke the belief that the bay was unrideable. The Eddie, held only when the waves top twenty feet, is named for Eddie Aikau, a lifeguard who was lost paddling for help after Hōkūleʻa capsized in 1978.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
