Town Center at Cobb opens as the largest mall in Georgia

The mall opened on 28 February 1986 anchored by Rich's, Macy's and Sears, with Mervyn's added later the same year, and it was the biggest in the state at the time. Its Macy's was the first in Atlanta that had not begun life as a Davison's, the local department store chain Macy's had absorbed. Sears and Belk have since gone dark, leaving two Macy's stores and a JCPenney holding the ends of the building.
