The Yellow Deli, where the Twelve Tribes began
737 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee
Gene Spriggs and his wife Marsha began a Jesus movement coffee house ministry in Chattanooga in 1972, and their followers, living together, soon opened the Yellow Deli as a sandwich shop run by the community. The group broke with its Presbyterian church in 1975 after a Sunday service was called off for the Super Bowl, sold its delis, and by 1980 had moved north to Island Pond, Vermont, growing into the Twelve Tribes, a sect that has faced allegations of child abuse and child labour for decades. It came back and opened this Yellow Deli on McCallie Avenue in 2008.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
