The concrete pier at the end of Washington Boulevard dates from about 1963. Waves tore out its access ramp and cut its utility lines in 1983, and county engineers closed it again in November 1986 after finding structural problems. A local business group called Pier Pressure pushed for its repair, and a 4.5 million dollar restoration reopened it in 1997.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
