The Trapp family's Vermont
1942
Stowe, Vermont

The actual family from The Sound of Music, having sung their way out of Austria in 1938, bought a Stowe hill farm in 1942 because it reminded them of home, and turned it into a lodge the second the singing tours slowed. Maria ran it for decades. Her descendants still do. It is Austria as Vermont understands it, cross-country trails, lederhosen and all, and the family will gently tell you the movie got most of the details wrong.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
