The Sybil Ludington statue
1777
Gleneida Avenue, Carmel, New York
Anna Hyatt Huntington's 1961 statue shows Sybil Ludington, who is said to have ridden about 40 miles through Putnam County on the night of 26 April 1777, at 16, to call out her father's militia after the British burned Danbury. The story first appears in print decades after the war, and most historians now doubt the ride happened. The statue, the roadside markers and a 1975 postage stamp all came much later.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
