The Spooks Temple at Whitewater

Morris Pratt made money in an iron venture up north (on advice, he said, from the spirits) and in 1889 spent it building a Temple of Science on a corner in Whitewater where spiritualists could gather. The town called it Pratt's Folly and the Spooks Temple. After he died it became the first formal training school for spiritualist mediums in the country. Whitewater has been living with a reputation as Second Salem ever since, which the students at the university here have never had the slightest interest in correcting.
