The Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago picks a bluff outside Lemont
1986
Lemont, Illinois
South Indian community leaders organised in 1977 and chose Rama as the main deity for the temple they meant to build, because his appeal reached across the immigrant communities. They looked at about thirty sites before buying eighteen acres of undeveloped bluff outside Lemont for its access, seclusion and price. The foundation stone went down in June 1984 and the temple opened on 4 July 1986. A group of Telugu professionals had split off in the meantime to build their own temple in Aurora.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
