The Hewer, a statue Cairo somehow has
1906
Halliday Park, Cairo, Illinois
Keith Edkins · CC BY-SA 2.0 · Wikimedia Commons
A bronze of a man hauling water by George Grey Barnard, the sculptor who did the Pennsylvania capitol groups, standing in a small park in a town of fewer than two thousand people. Lorado Taft is generally quoted calling it one of the two finest nudes in America. It arrived because a local family had the money and the taste to buy it, at a moment when Cairo still had both.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
