The glass flowers at the Harvard Museum of Natural History

Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka spent five decades in Dresden making glass models of plants for Harvard, because pressed specimens go brown and wax models sag. The result is roughly 4,000 pieces that look like botany and are actually glass. They sit in a museum that pulls 12,000 specimens out of the university's herbaria, its zoology collection and its mineral collection.
