The Gateway Geyser, a fountain as tall as the Arch
1995
East St. Louis, Illinois

Eero Saarinen meant his memorial to touch both banks of the Mississippi, but the money only ever reached the Missouri side. Illinois answered in 1995 with a fountain that threw water 630 feet, the exact height of the Arch and the tallest in the United States. Four smaller jets around it stand for the Mississippi, the Missouri, the Illinois and the Meramec. The geyser was shut off in 2023 while the park was prepared for the National Park Service.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
