The fortune cookie at the tea garden

Japanese Tea Garden, San Francisco · 1914

Makoto Hagiwara ran the tea garden in Golden Gate Park and served a folded cracker with a note in it, made to a Japanese temple recipe. A Los Angeles bakery claimed the same invention.
