Charles Gates Dawes lived in this 1894 lakefront mansion from 1909 until his death in 1951. His scheme for restructuring the reparations Germany owed after World War I won him the 1925 Nobel Peace Prize, and he went on to serve as vice president under Calvin Coolidge and as ambassador to Britain. The house is now a museum.
