In January 1991 a Channelview woman, Wanda Webb Holloway, was arrested for trying to hire a hitman to kill the mother of her daughter's rival for a junior high cheerleading squad, on the theory that the grief would keep the girl from trying out. The relative she approached went to the sheriff instead, and the deal was recorded at a Pasadena motel. Her first conviction was overturned, she pleaded no contest at the second trial, and she served six months of a ten year sentence.
