The burning of Darien
1863
Darien, McIntosh County, Georgia
Ebyabe · CC BY-SA 3.0 · Wikimedia Commons
Union troops including the Black 54th Massachusetts burned the emptied town of Darien in June 1863 on the orders of a colonel who wanted the South to feel the war, over the written objection of Robert Gould Shaw, who called it a satanic action he was made to share in. The scene opens the moral argument of the film Glory. The town rebuilt in tabby and timber and is still small.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
