1814

On 24 August 1814 a British force of regulars and Royal Marines broke a larger American line of regulars and militia at the Anacostia crossing here. The retreat was fast enough that it got mocked as the Bladensburg Races. That evening the British walked into Washington and burned the Capitol and the President's House, the only time a foreign army has taken the city.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
