The Andrew Freedman Home, for people who lost their money
1924
1125 Grand Concourse, the Bronx

Andrew Freedman built a subway fortune, nearly lost it in the Panic of 1907, and left most of it to endow a home for elderly people who had been wealthy and were not any more. Residents arrived with references, ate off linen with servants and a library and never paid a cent. The endowment ran out and the last of the original tenants were rehoused in 1983.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
