Shipment to China marks the 1885 expulsion of Tacoma's Chinese residents

In November 1885 a Tacoma mob marched the city's Chinese residents out of town in the rain and put them on a train south, a technique copied across the West afterwards and known as the Tacoma Method. Hai Ying Wu's sculpture stacks a hundred bronze crates on a 1909 rail car, because the railroad Chinese labour had helped build was the same one used to carry them away. The Chinese Reconciliation Project Foundation gave it to the city.
