Mayor Robert F. Jones installed a camera obscura at the North Beach Bath House in April 1899, and it became a stop on the Balloon Route streetcar tour of Los Angeles. It was moved up the bluff to Palisades Park in the early 1900s and now sits inside the park building there. A rotating turret on the roof throws a live image of the beach and the bay onto a white disc in a darkened room.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
