S. H. Barnicoat Monuments and its ninety foot granite derrick
1890
Quincy, Massachusetts
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Barnicoat cut headstones on Columbia Street out of an 1890s workshop building, one of the last 19th century granite shops in Quincy still doing the work it was built for. A derrick more than ninety feet tall swung blocks around the yard. The shop was demolished after its 1989 listing on the National Register and the lot now holds an oil change garage and a Dunkin.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
