Richmond burns as the Confederacy falls
April 2-3, 1865
Richmond, Virginia
Retreating Confederate troops set fire to the tobacco warehouses so the stores would not be captured, and the wind took it through the business district. Union soldiers, many of them Black troops, put the fire out. Lincoln walked the streets two days later, and freedmen knelt to him until he told them to kneel only to God.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
