Planet Ocean, the whale mural wrapped round the Long Beach Arena

The marine painter Wyland spent the summer of 1992 covering the outside of the round Long Beach Arena with grey whales, dolphins and kelp, all the way around: about 1,280 feet of wall, 100 feet tall. It was the thirty-third of the hundred Whaling Walls he set out to paint, and the 1993 Guinness Book listed it as the largest mural in the world. He came back years later to repaint it himself after the sea air had worked on it.
