A bomb tore into the entrance of the Jewish Community Center on West End Avenue, days after anonymous callers had warned the center to stop hosting meetings on school desegregation. A group calling itself the Confederate Underground claimed responsibility, part of a wave of bombings against Jewish institutions across the South that year, including Atlanta's Temple. No one was hurt and no one was ever convicted. The center reopened the next day.
