On the afternoon of Freddie Gray's funeral, April 27, 2015, police sealed the bus and subway hub at Mondawmin Mall while students from the surrounding schools were trying to get home. The standoff with stranded teenagers that followed is where that day's unrest began, and the looting of the mall was the footage that went national. It stayed shut until May 2. The city's 1968 uprising is pinned a few miles east.
