Meteor Crater
1903
Coconino County, Arizona
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
A mile across and 550 feet deep, made about 50,000 years ago by an iron mass perhaps 50 metres wide. Daniel Barringer spent 27 years and his fortune drilling for the meteorite, not realising it had mostly vaporised. It became the first crater on earth proven to be an impact, and Apollo crews trained in it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
