Lincoln Cemetery, where Bessie Coleman and Rube Foster are buried
1911

Black business leaders founded this cemetery in 1911 because most burial grounds around Chicago would not take Black families. It covers about 112 acres and holds more than 16,000 graves. Bessie Coleman, the first Black woman to hold a pilot's licence, lies here, along with Rube Foster, who organised the Negro National League, and the pianist Lil Hardin Armstrong.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
