José Martí in Ybor City
1893
Parque Amigos de José Martí, Tampa
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
Ybor City’s cigar workers gave a day’s pay a week to Cuban independence, and the war of 1895 was largely financed from these factory floors. Somebody tried to poison Martí with wine here in 1892. The park where he recovered was deeded to Cuba and is Cuban soil.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
